May 13-July 1 at Ohio Wesleyan University’s Ross Art Museum

Ohio Wesleyan University’s Richard M. Ross Art Museum will cover its walls with art quilts from around the United States between May 13 and July 1, when it hosts a juried show in conjunction with the 2016 Quilt Surface Design Symposium in Columbus.

“We accepted 30 quilts from 13 artists across the nation,” said Tammy Wallace, assistant director at the Ross Art Museum and curator of the upcoming exhibit. “The quilts range from super-realistic representational, to abstract, to humorous, to poignant … and include some well-known artists and artists showing for the very first time.

“The title of this year’s exhibit is ‘Party On,’ featuring art quilts expressing our obsession with parties of all types, whether celebrations of special days or of the political variety,” Wallace said. “Birthdays, anniversaries, and retirements all call for parties. There are celebrations of life and wakes when loved ones leave us. Holidays that are sacred, secular, national, and local are marked with parties. The many sides of our electoral system each name themselves a party.”

Wallace said the exhibit is being held as part of the annual Quilt Surface Design Symposium, which will be held in four sessions running from May 30 to June 12 at Columbus College of Art & Design, 60 Cleveland Ave., Columbus.

Ohio Wesleyan’s Ross Art Museum will be open for the “Party On” exhibit on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The museum is handicap-accessible and admission is always free. Call (740) 368-3606 or visit more information.
