Wittenberg Assistant Professor of Art Janice Glowski is the curatorial organizer for an exhibit of photography titled India’s Coffee Country: The Domestic and The Divine by Andrew LaMoreaux on display in the Springfield Center for the Arts at Wittenberg University Gallery until Dec. 31.
The exhibit gives viewers an international experience, containing photographs taken during the artist’s time overseas “navigating the back roads of India’s coffee country and spending time in the homes of estate owners and families in the Karnataka region of South India.”
LaMoreaux, a documentary photographer with an international focus and faculty member in the Art Department at Marietta College, wants the exhibit to take the viewer to a world “beyond exotic India.” During his time abroad, he spent time discovering India’s Coffee Estate region, where he explored the “essence of family bonds, spiritual commitment, economic aspirations and the lives built off the land.”
LaMoreaux received his BFA from The Ohio State University and his MA in Documentary Photography, which is the equivalent of an MFA, from the University of Sydney in Australia.
Wittenberg students are allowed free admission, as well as parents, alumni, faculty, staff and members of the Springfield Museum of Art. For everyone else, the cost of admission is $5 for adults, and children under 17 are admitted free. Sundays are also free admission days.
The Springfield Center for the Arts at Wittenberg University is located at 107 Cliff Park Road.
