Calling all Sculptures!

One of the best parts of being a finalist in the AICUO Art Awards is the trophy you will receive if you make it to the final six nominees. These trophies are unique to each year, and designed by students at our participating institutions. Once the design has been picked, a local Columbus sculpture will work with the student to make their trophy idea come to life.

The Deadline will be sometime in October and we will have more information on that up here on the blog shortly when we get the rest of the details, but it never hurts to get the creative juices flowing early. Check out the Sculpture Competition of this blog to see previous awards and get some more details on what we may be looking for.

We are beginning our search for sculpture designs. BE CREATIVE! We have used glass, wood, metal, ceramics, everything you can think of in the past and we are looking for something new and exciting to present to our artists. If you are a student and have some great ideas, or a local artist interested in being the maker of these awards please feel free to contact the Art Award Coordinator at msoppelsa@aicuo.edu with your ideas or

Summer Art Activities

As we move into the summer months and forget what it is like to have to wake up for classes and have real responsibilities, keep your eyes open for all the great art opportunities that Columbus has to offer.

The 2013 Columbus Arts Festival, presented by Time Warner Cable, will be taking place along the Riverfront starting Friday June 7th and going until Sunday June 9th. During this time, the Riverfront will host a variety of artists turning the area into an outdoor gallery hosting many Columbus artists as well as over 230 world renowned artists. If that's not enough, come check out the live music and local food that will be out as well. Check out the Columbus Arts council page for more information. (http://columbusarts.com/events/86883-2013-columbus-arts-festival/)

The Columbus Art Museum currently has some great exhibits going on over the summer as well. Currently there is a Mark Rothko exhibit featuring his work from The Decisive Decade showcasing 37 of his pieces from the 1940-1950 era. It will be at CMA until May 26 so see it soon! After the Rothko exhibit closes, there will be a tribute to a Columbus artist, George Bellows from August until January as well as Toulouse-Lautrec show with dates yet to be determined. For more information on what's going on at the museum visit http://www.columbusmuseum.org

In addition to all these great opportunities always keep your eyes open for new gallery openings in the Short North District, and we will be sure to update you on interesting art activities throughout the rest of the summer. Keep the artistic juices flowing this summer!
