Free Art Walks & Landmark Talks Return for 2014

artwalks-talks
Columbus Landmarks is once again joining forces with Columbus Public Health to offer 32 free guided Art Walks & Landmark Talks this summer and fall. The free, one-hour walking tours are made possible with support from the Ohio Humanities Council. We will kick-off the series in Franklinton on Monday, June 2. Tours are offered weekly on Monday evenings and some Sunday evenings from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Columbus Art Walks were developed by Columbus Public Health asself-guided walking maps with audio tours of 13 districts. Columbus Art Walks & Landmark Talks bring to life the maps and key features, providing a guide to narrate the public art, architecture and history along the route. We are offering tours of each district on two or three different dates featuring different routes each time, so every tour provides the opportunity to see/learn something new.
Get your week off on the right foot and join the conversation! No registration required – simply show up at the meeting place a few minutes before 6:30 p.m. Tours cover approximately one mile at a leisurely pace. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle. In case of inclement or threatening weather, please call 614.221.0227 – we will leave a recorded message by 5:30 p.m. regarding tour status. If  it’s a light rain or brief pop-up shower, with no thunder or lightening, we will proceed with the tour. Bring an umbrella!

The two-artist show “is based on found remnants of the natural world presented as icons,” Abijanac and Norman said on the gallery’s website. “As the natural environment is slowly deteriorating, we are forced to deal with the casualties of our actions.”
Abijanac teaches design and studio professions at CCAD and has exhibited her work nationally and internationally including at the Cranbrook Art Museum in Michigan and the Zanesville Museum of Art. She was awarded first place in fiber at the 68th Annual Ohio Exhibition, and her work has been reviewed in the New Art Examiner as well as in Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania newspapers.
Norman, a fiber artist, has lectured and exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally. She has developed and conducted workshops for all ages, worked as a consultant to area schools and community arts organizations, and before her retirement held the position of associate provost and dean of faculty at CCAD.
Remnants of Casualties is on display through August 15 at the Concourse Gallery, 3600 Tremont Rd., Upper Arlington, OH, 43221.
